The Spurgeon Fellowship began on the campus of Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon under the leadership of Dr. Art Azurdia. The aim in beginning the ministry was to deepen the character and competency of local ministers of the gospel. Over the years, a group from Spokane, Washington had a similar burden and began to talk with the TSF group at Western about beginning an arm of the ministry in the Inland Northwest. Since 2012, we have been blessed to have amazing speakers come and build into our pastoral community. In 2015, TSF, Spokane became an official event of The Gospel Coalition's Inland Northwest Chapter. Our hope at TSF, Spokane is to help you go deep with the gospel in every area of life and ministry. We seek to serve the Christian community in the Inland Northwest by building up those who lead it. TSF, Spokane is for vocational pastors, lay elders and deacons, and men who are training for the ministry.
Bob Kauflin - May 10, 2017
On May 10, 2017, Bob Kauflin will be the featured speaker at The Spurgeon Fellowship in Spokane. He will address the topic of "The Gospel in Corporate Worship".
After receiving a piano performance degree from Temple University in 1976, Bob traveled for eight years with the contemporary Christian group GLAD as a songwriter, speaker, and arranger. He continued to write and arrange for the group until 2010, and was a major contributor to The A Capella Project (1988). In 1984, he left GLAD to pursue active involvement in a local church associated with Sovereign Grace Ministries. In the early 90s, he helped to plant what is now CrossWay Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was featured on the Integrity’s Hosanna! CD, Chosen Treasure. In 1997, after 12 years of pastoring, Bob moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he led corporate worship at Covenant Life Church and became the Director of Sovereign Grace Music. His book, Worship Matters, was published by Crossway in 2008. Through conferences, seminars, and his blog, Worship Matters, he seeks to equip pastors, musicians, and songwriters in the theology and practice of congregational worship. He also oversees the production of Sovereign Grace Music albums. He currently is involved in another church plant in Louisville, KY, with CJ Mahaney. Bob and his wife, Julie, were married in 1976. They are blessed with six children and an ever growing number of grandchildren.
